1. LIVING HUMAN TREASURES

Location: The National Olympiad “Traditional Artistic Handicrafts” wishes to maintain, in a competitive, lucrative and expositive manner, the interest and to cultivate the talent of the young generations in the art of traditional pottery, one of the oldest artistic handicrafts from the entire history of our civilization.
Description: The National Festival of Folk Traditions is conceived by specialists as a spectacular and interactive event promoting the intangible cultural heritage, with its laic, religious, artistic aspects of rural Romanian communities, no difference by the ethnic, belonging. This people are still living the authentic expression of tradition as a symbol of their own communities, no different by their ethnicity.
The visitor will have a great experience in front of hundreds of real peasants with their stories, their songs, their dancing rhythms, their everyday activities, in all their diversity, from traditional crafts through remarkable technical skills to traditional food preparation brought by the peasants from their own village, for all the visitors.

THE NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF FOLK TRADITIONS

The purpose of the festival is to consolidate in the conscience of the participants the sacred meaning of keeping, growing and promoting traditions, but also to share all this feelings with the public, in an authentic journey in search of the cultural identity. During the days of The Festival the “classic museum” just disappears and the “living museum” is celebrating the village life for the joy of the visitor.
THE ROMANIAN CRAFTSMEN FAIR
Duration: 15th – 19th August 2007
Description: The Romanian Craftsmen Fair wants to keep and revitalize the process of production and exchange of authentic values of traditional art from all the villages in the country. Having the benefit of 40 homesteads – workshops for a complete image of all the traditional crafts, in all the fields of production, from utility to decorative purpose, The Fair offers the unique chance of integrating the living contemporary phenomenon of traditions, in the natural environment of the museum.
THE NATIONAL OLYMPIAD “TRADITIONAL ARTISTIC HANDICRAFTS”
Duration: 23th – 29th August 2007
Description: This unique event demonstrates the virtues of the Romanian folk art, its ageless values in the Romanian villages, the exceptional availability of children and teenagers, from all over the country, in taking over and continuing the traditions.

2. “THE GOLDEN FISH”- INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Wishing to create a real holiday of folklore of everywhere, the purpose of our Festival is to gather, at the Danube embouchoures, the children – as the messengers of folklore from Romania and abroad, to share their joyness with children from all over the world, to make friendships.
Having a dynamic and effective organization, the Festival from Tulcea has always succeeded to dismiss any frontiers, accommodating ensembles from Bulgaria, Georgia, Poland, Ukraine, France, Russia, Republic of Moldavia, Yugoslavia, Armenia, Greece, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Cyprus, Venezuela, Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Romania. 3. „CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI” INTERANTIONAL SCULPTER SYMPOSIUM

Date: 1 - 30 August 2007
Location: TÂRGU-JIU
Sculpture camp with the participation of a Romanian artist and 5-7 foreign artists.
The participants on this event can visit the surrounding areas extremely attractive of the city, they also can snack from the specific gastronomical products of the area.

4. CALLATIS FESTIVAL

Date: August, 2007 – 9th Edition
Location: Constanta County, City of Mangalia
Constanta County, placed in the South Eastern extremity of Romania, is bathed to the East by the Black Sea and to the West by the Danube river. It neighbors with Tulcea County to the North and Bulgaria to the South.
The second biggest city on the Romanian coast, Mangalia is located 40 km far from Constanta and 14 km far from the Bulgarian border. Mangalia is a spa resort and also with a very long history (more than 2000 years). It has a special climate, very much like the Mediterranean one, with an average temperature close to the highest one in the country. Among the interesting tourist objectives, the oldest mosque from Romania (1590) must be mentioned. The Archaeological Museum shelters a few unique exhibits, discovered in this area: “Mercurius” collection of pipes and curiosities and the ruins of Callatis city. In the last few years, the image of this resort improved a lot and Mangalia became a very attractive holiday destination. One of its attraction points is the Callatis Festival, organized every year, in the month of August. This Festival celebrates the days of Mangalia and is broadcasted live on the National Television. Thousand of spectators sing and dance together with Romanian and foreign artists in the Tourist Harbor for 7 days and 7 nights turning Mangalia into a true Capital of the summer entertainment.
Every year the location for Callatis Festival is the same - a barge that is docked into the touristic harbor of Mangalia. This barge consists of a huge stage and a very large backstage area, enough to hold over 200 people. The spectators sit on benches across the harbor, about 20 meters away from the stage.The Callatis Festival began in 1999 and has expanded ever since.
The Callatis Festival is held every summer between August 8 and August 15. The main part of the festival (the concerts on the stage) take place beginning at 21:00 and end after midnight.
Every year the Callatis Festival has a few themed nights. There is Europa Top Hits night, where all the major Romanian music stars gather, the folk music night, the Miss Diaspora night, where Romanian girls living in foreign conutries compete with each other in a Miss contest.

5. INTERNATIONAL DANUBE FESTIVAL

Period: 12 – 15 August 2007
This festival takes place in the city of Tulcea, once in two years - in the odd years.
Location:
This festival takes place both in the city of Tulcea – Romania, as well as in the city of Ulm – Germany.
Description of the event:
In 2003, the first edition of the festival took place in Tulcea, having as the theme “Danube – River of Europe”. At that first edition of the festival, artists from Germany, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Cyprus, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldavia, Russia, and other riparian cities took part in the events.
In 2005, symposiums were organized in order to create the framework for discussing the topic of environment protection along the Danube between the representatives of different countries and to find concrete possibilities of cooperation.
This festival has, as its main purpose, to offer to the wide public the acknowledge of the cultures and people along the Danube by traditional folk manifestations, book relies, concerts, art exhibitions, folk costumes parades, theatre, etc.
Organizers: The main organizer of this event is the City Hall of Tulcea, together with the Danube Office, the County Council, The Art High School, and others local institutions. The guests expected any year come from different Danube riparian cities, as Baja, Budapest, Izmail, Novi Sad, Ulm, Vidin, and many Romanian cities. In the year 2007, again, the city of Tulcea is going to be the host of this festival.

6. THE DAYS OF TULCEA CITY

Period: This event takes place during the 12th and the 15th of August, in the even years, when the International Danube Festival takes place in Ulm, Germany.
Location: The days of the Tulcea City are celebrated on the bank of the Danube and on Unirii Street.
Description of the event:
The city of Tulcea celebrates its official day on the 15th of August, when all Romanians are celebrating Saint Mary Day and the Navy Day, but the events begin earlier, on the 12th of August, with artistic events and craftsmen fair - with participation from all over the country. The craftsmen’ fair takes place during the entire period of the manifestations and pleases the eyes of the viewers with different handicrafts.
On the 15th of August, the celebration begins with the manifestations organized by the Navy Authority, which consists in a ships parade, the heaving of the flags, gun fires, the sanctification of the Danube’s waters and specific sailors’ games.
The artistic shows take place during the evenings, on the cliff of the Danube, and pleases both the citizens of the city and the tourists with the music of well-known Romanian singers.

7. INTERNATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL „DOINA COVURLUIULUI”, 2ND EDITION

Date: 14th to 19th August 2007
Location: Galati, Sindicate Cultural House
Description: The event intends to include the town of Galati in the national and international circuit of this sort of events. The first edition enjoyed the extraordinary participation of famous folk groups from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, and Serbia.

8. MARINE’S DAY

Date: 15th August 2007
Location: Constanta City, Constanta and Tomis harbours.
Constanta County, placed in the South Eastern extremity of Romania, is bathed to the East by the Black Sea and to the West by the Danube river. It neighbors with Tulcea County to the North and Bulgaria to the South.
The return of Dobrogea territory to mother country, after nearly five centuries of Ottoman supremacy and after the Independence War of 1877 - 1878 (November, 14, 1878) signified for the Romanian people the way out to Black Sea and to the entire world through the water way.
The first celebration of the Navy Protector was on the 15th of August 1902. The official ceremony took place onboard of „Elisabeth” cruiser and all the Sea Division officers attended.
The celebration of the Navy Day that coincides with St. Mary holiday increased every year, the festivities including: rounds of cannon, dressing a ship over all, the speech of the Navy Commander or his representative, the singing of the National Hymn, the throwing of a flower anchor into the sea in memory of the heroic sailors, navy sport games, boat contests, fireworks, music shows and entertainment.

9. THE PROETNICA FESTIVAL, THE DAYS OF THE ETHNIC COMMUNITIES IN ROMANIA

Date: 17-25 august 2007
Location: Sighisoara Municipality, Mures County, Romania

Sighisoara is situated 54 km south from the municipality – capital of the county – Tirgu-Mures. It is accesable with car on the european road E 60 from direction Oradea – Cluj-Napoca – Tirgu Mures and from Bucharest – Ploiesti – Brasov or on the national road DN 14 from direction Sibiu, on railway, or by plane throught Tirgu-Mures Transilvaia Airport.
Description:
It is the most important project of the Association the Interethnic Educational Youth Centre in Sighisoara and is organized under the „Unity in Diversity” motto.
ProEtnica wants to offer the ethnic communities from Romania a public voice, the possibility to represent themselves, at least symbolically, through cultural forms and programs that they themselves consider representative.
The festival is organized together with the International Studies Institute of the Babes-Bolyai University, Sighisoara City Hall and the following ethnic communities: Albanian, Armenian, Bulgarian, Czech, Croatian, Jewish, Greek, German, Italian, Macedonian, Hungarian, Polish, Roma, Russian Lipovan, Ruthenian, Serbian, Slovakian, Tartar, Turkish and Ukrainian.
The program of the festival includes dance and music performances, conferences, book and CD presentations, contemporary and traditional art exhibitions, interactive activities, puppet show and concerts. Traditional and contemporary music and dance performances take place on stages in Sighisoara and also in the squares of the medieval citadel.
During the six editions of the festival (2001-2006), ProEtnica registered a great success. The presence of over 30 000 people in the audience, every year, especially young people, and the media coverage have managed to make the festival known nationally and internationally. ProEtnica is one of the most important multiethnic events in South Eastern Europe.

10. “HORA LA PRISLOP” (DANCE AT PRISLOP)

Location: Borsa Accessibility:
From Baia Mare take DN18 towards Sighetu Marmatiei. In Vadu Izei village make a right turn on DJ186 towards Borsa.
A traditional festival of Romanian dances with folk groups and artisans from Maramures, Suceava and Bistrita; enjoy beautiful mountain scenery and a huge feast at the border between Maramures and Bucovina.

11. THE FESTIVAL OF FOLKLORE FROM CODRU ZONE

Period and location: The festival takes place every year in the month of August (for next year the exact date is 19th of August 2007), in the commune Homoroade, in the beautiful forest from Oteloaia.
Access: The place is located on the county road DJ 197A – Satu Mare – Solduba, 30 km away from Satu Mare municipality.
Description of the event: This event promotes the traditions and customs, the songs and the dances specific to Codru Zone. On the stage placed on the Oteloaia lake, in a wonderful hills and forest landscape, perform interpreters and folk dance ensembles from Satu Mare and from neighboring counties. The festival has its origin in an old tradition of the locals, who gathered in the clearing from the middle of the old oak forest, after the summer field’s works, celebrating through dance, songs and mirth the work and its fruits.

12. TÂRGU-JIU” INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

Date : 20 August 2007
Location : TÂRGU-JIU
Festival with participations of some folkloric assemblies from countries like: Romania, Europe, Asia and Africa. It is one of the main folkloric festival of the country.

13. HANDICRAFTSMAN MARKET TOWN

Location: TÂRGU-JIU
Meeting of the popular handicraftsman from all areas of Romania with similar participants from the countries invited at the International Folklore Festival. Exposition of traditional handicraftsman product and practical demonstration related to the popular craft.

14. THE “TRANSYLVANIAN FORTRESSES” MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL

Location: The historic center of Sibiu
Duration: 24 - 26th of August 2007
Description: The “Transylvanian Fortresses” Medieval Festival will recreate a medieval atmosphere in the historic centre of Sibiu for three days and three nights. From Friday to Sunday knights and maidens, princes and princesses, troubadours and artisans will conquer the Big Square, the Small Square, Cetatii Street, Cazarma 90 and other places in the old part of the city in a marathon of theatre, dance, and mock medieval battles. The exceptional quality of the artistic performances is offered by the exclusive presence of the medieval music bands and orchestras from Romania and from abroad as well as by the theater plays with a medieval character set up in the historic center on Sibiu. One can see knights fighting or going on horseback, medieval dances and songs, troubadours performing on the medieval streets etc. Each festival begins with a medieval costume parade and an opening ceremony where the mayor of Sibiu makes an official speech. After the opening ceremony the feast begins with fireworks and shows, traditional foods and medieval music.

15. INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL „HORA MARE”

Location: The festival takes place yearly on the stage located in „Dumbrava” Park , in the end of August. It is the most important festival organized in Calarasi, with 150 participants each year, both from Romania and abroad.
The festival aims to present, to preserve and to capitalize on the promotion of traditional elements like dressing, customs, music and dance of Romanians and other nations, by the presence of various foreign groups. At previous editions, folklore bands and groups from Italy, Netherlands, Ukraine, Scotland, Turkey, Israel, Greece ,etc performed on the stage of „Hora Mare”.
During the festival , there are parades of traditional dressing and the folklore groups present in the festival march on the main roads of the city. There are, as well, simoultaneous shows on the stage of Dumbrava Park and in various locations in Calarasi County. Considering the permanent link between tradition and art , in the future, it will be tried to attract traditional masters that will present authentic popular art.

Calarasi County is situated in the South – East of Romania, on the left shore of Danube and on Borcea branch. Its neighbours are: at North Ialomita County, at South-East Constanta County, at West Giurgiu County and Ilfov County and at South Bulgaria.

16. MAMAIA FOLK FESTIVAL

Date: August, 2007 / 7th edition Location: Constanta County, Mamaia resort – northen part of Constanta City
Throughout the year, Romanians celebrate their ancient heritage, changing seasons, religious holidays and life-cycle events, such as birth, marriage and death, with festivals that have remained unchanged for centuries. Some of Europe's most traditional folkways are meticulously preserved here, with young celebrants wearing the same costumes and dancing the same steps to tunes played on instruments traditional to their forefathers since time immemorial.
At the end of August, Mamaia Summer Theatre will host the 7th edition of the National Folk Song and Dance Festival “Mamaia 2007”. Constanta County Council will organize it in cooperation with the national Romanian Television TVR. In 2006, over 50 contestants from Romania and Moldavia competed for the trophy. Their professionalism brought this festival high above all other cultural events in the country. As compared to the pop music singers, the folk singers not only need a good voice, but also a wide repertoire in order to find their identity. Also, the folk costumes that were shown on the stage of Mamaia are part of the dobrudjan heritage and have a great value.

17. “CRAFTSMEN’S FAIR” (TÂRGUL MESTERILOR POPULARI), THE VTH EDITION

Date: 31 August – 2nd September 2007
Location: Vaslui Civic Square
The “Craftsmen’s Fair”, on its Vth edition, is proposed to promote and to perpetuate the craftsmen from Vaslui area. This event, organized in a workshop and a sales exhibition, aims at stimulating the craftsmen who keep and practice traditional crafts – pottery, wood processing, weaving, naive painting etc., but also it aims at acquainting the townspeople with the Romanian handmade tradition, as these traditional products represent a capital of identity memory. The best represented field is the pottery, the most important pottery centers from the country participating to this fair: Marginea, Horezu, Corund, Baia Mare, Botosani etc.

18. INTERNATIONAL FINE ARTS CAMP

Description of the event: Lazarea is one of the oldest localities of the basin; it lies 6 km east from the town Gheorgheni. For two decades now, an important artistical event is being organized in the village, which gathers artists from all over the world. The camp was named Friendship Artist Camp, and then the name was changed to Clamps Fine Arts Camp. In 2006, twenty international artists came and created works, which have been exposed. Among this year’s participants, we can find artists from all over Europe, Japan and Thailand as well. The building of the old abbey had been renovated; it welcomes artist, participants and visitors of the camp every year.

19. THE FOLKLORE CONTEST-FESTIVAL “PE MARGINEA DUNARII” („ON THE DANUBE SIDE”)

Description: The purpose of the festival is to know and to value the Romanian folklore music, but also the music of the neighbouring countries, by discovering new interpretative talents (voice and instruments), and putting to good use the specific costumes from the folkloric areas presented in the festival.

Description:
“Nedeea romanilor” is a event with almost 35 years of tradition. This ia an open door exhibition that is organized on the shore of the Bega river at Liman Valley, a tourist resort near Poiana Rusca Mountains.
It is an opportunity to show Romanian customs and to exhibit gastronomic and handcraft products that cam be bought also.
During 8 hours you can enjoy folkloric and artistic ensembles performing, vocals and instrumental band from Romania and from other countries.
This is a very popular event, sometimes gathering up to 10000 participants.

22. Ethnic Communities Festival from Banat, VII edition

The Festival starts with a traditional popular costumes parade on the route Lunca – Civic Center followed by the artistic performing of the participant collectives.
Here are represented the following ethnic communities: German, Croat, Ukraine, Czech, Hungarian, Rrom and Romanian.

23. NATIONAL FESTIVAL AND CONTEST OF MUSIC CREATION AND INTERPRETATION „SULINA” – Xth EDITION

Description: The event has as its main goal to boost the development of the artistic movement within the cultural institutions from the small communities of the Danube Delta and from all over the country, as well as the attraction of an important number of Romanian and foreign tourists, due to the important touristic heritage of Sulina and the neighbouring area (a city located in the delta and, in the same time, on the Black Sea coast). The activities consist in open-air shows and recitals of some solists.
