Description:
A very rich and colourful ancient ritual - the first man to work the fields this season is celebrated; the name of the festival comes from the Romanian word “tânja”, which represents the pole that connects the animals to the carriage.
Early in the morning the youngsters ornate 12 yokes with birch branches and colorful laces and meet at the first ploughman's house. The whole village assists in carrying the ploughman on the carriage to the river. The carriage is pulled by the youngsters - called "pogonici" - and several "guards" watch over it such as the ploghman cannot run to the river and wash himself, in which case the "guards" have to organize the final banquet.
First, the carriage makes three rounds around the ploughed field and the "master pogonici" makes an invocation to the sun for the prosperity of the fields. Then they say a prayer and go to the Mara river, where the oldest member of the community washes the ploughman's face and hands three times, while wishing prosperity and health to the community and to the whole nation. Then the "pogonici" cross the river with their yokes and splash the girls and the young ladies. All ends up with a banquet and a folk show held on a special arranged stage, with dance and music.

The Craftsmen Fair is organized annually in May in Cluj-Napoca, organized by the Ethnographical Museum of Transylvania.
