Covasna - Gastronomical journeys
One of the greatest values of Covasna County is its rich history. As a buffer region for Otomans, Slavic and Western peoples, it got a touch from each cuisine. Have you tried a bean soup served in a bread loaf, cabbage rolls, mici or polenta? If yes, don't believe you know what they are like. At us everything tastes different because it is made by US; some Hungarian, some Romanian, some Saxon, some Turkish, some catholic, some reformed, some Jewish, some orthodox, some armenian....
All these specialties turn up on huge feasts such as the Sausage Parade, the Polenta Festival, Hunter's fest, or the Pig-Sticking Feast.

„THE NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF FOLK TRADITIONS”
Description: TThe national museum complex ASTRA initiated in 2001 the organization of the “National Festival of
Folk Traditions” which is conceived as a spectacular and interactive manifestation of scenic or lucrative, ecclesiastical or laic
presentation through a direct dialogue between the folk artisans- the peasant performers, representatives of the village communities and
the visitors.
The festival represents a series of shows and vivid activities, of “in vivo” creation workshops deployed in the Open Air Museum
from Dumbrava Sibiului. The festival presents annually the evolution of more than 350 performers in seven thematic sections one of them
being the cookery.
The cookery reunites chefs skilled in cooking traditional dishes from different regions of Romania, which make the proof of their
culinary talent in front of the visitors. Tourists can watch how dishes are being cooked, they can taste specific traditional dishes
such as “sarmalute (stuffed cabbage)”, beans with bone, fried cabbage with Romanian sausages, “mamaliga” (corn mush) with cheese and cream,
lamb stew, pies made on oven, these dishes being only a small part of what the visitors can experiment from a culinary point of view.
